Freedom Trail - A Mountain Biking Adventure

The day after 12000 runners will have finished the grueling 87km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, a mere 60 Mountain Biking enthusiasts (nutters!) will be embarking on a slightly longer challenge.

The Freedom Trail is an ultra Mountain Bike staged event, which starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Paarl (near Cape Town), about 2300km away. The race has a 26 day cut-off time and you are well looked after for the duration of the journey.

The organiser have put an extra event on this year, the Extreme Triathalon. Only for those that have been officially certified as insane, this event combines the 87km Comrades Marathon, with the 2300km Freedom Trail Mountain Bike race followed by the 240km Berg River Canoe Marathon. If you have nothing else to do between the 16th June and the 12th of July, why not give this a shot :)
