Thomas Peschak, Shark Photographer.

On page 3 of this morning’s addition of Durban based newspaper “The Mercury” they feature a stunning photo of South African Freediver Hanli Prinsloo, swimming among blacktip sharks at the Aliwal Shoal off Umkomaas, on Natal’s South Coast.

For those who don’t know, Hanli Prinsloo is among the top ranked female Freedivers in the World. The underwater pic, was taken by Thomas Peschak who recently won a specially commended prize, in the Underwater World Category of the 2008 BBC Wildlife Photographer of the year competition. Prinsloo is depicted casually hovering among these somewhat dangerous sea predators, seemingly at ease and unperturbed.

Unfortunately I could not get hold of a copy of the particular photo I refer to, I did however upon searching the net come across several others taken by Peschak which are every bit as good. I ended up spending quite a bit of time on his website and was left quite awe-struck by the sheer magnificence of the images he is able to produce.

The above pic is just one of many outstanding images that can be seen on and the script the site contains also highlights some of the recognition he has received. The following paragraph is taken from the website and is his account, of the reaction he got to a newspaper article that was featured in the Daily Mail.

"On January 3rd 2008 the Daily Mail, Britain's second most popular daily newspaper (2.3 million copies sold) published my white shark kayak photograph as a double page spread. The publication resulted in 70 000 different people visiting my website in just 24 hours and many hundreds of e-mail enquiries. I am thrilled about the continued interest in the image and even happier that it seems to have inspired so many people to see the great white shark in a different light, as a majestic and beautiful animal, rather than a mindless killing machine."

Absolutely Awesome……….. GO VISIT HIS WEBSITE, click HERE
