Golf is a cool adventure activity

That classic surfer movie, Point Break with Patrick Swayze, probably on TCM nowadays was where Adrenalin Junkies became popularized. Golf as opposed to surfing misses the mark when we’re looking for a thrill…so some may say. Golfers disagree!

You’ve just got to test this with a wiggle of your hips, swing through that perfect shot. It is pure adrenaline so I have been told. A perfect shot remains a dream to me. Naturally all aspiring golfers and hackers alike want to feel the awesome kick of a hole-in-one.

Can you crack the mythical Nessie come Loch-ness like mystery of this golfing fact; GRAVITY IS STRONGER OVER THE WATER?

The rush of this fabulous game lingers on after the final hole has been played with swaggering recounts of proud feats and controversy. My advice is, it can be a blast but you’ve got to know your rules! Visit SANI PASS HOTEL & LEISURE RESORT for golfing enjoyment on a well-laid, manicured course surrounded by panoramic beauty. Just the spot to achieve that elusive hole-in-one. When you have been lets us know if you got it right.

What to do in Winter - 4x4 Trails!!!

So it’s the end of the week, and time for the weekend to begin. Most of you reading this are either planning what to do for the weekend or have already planned your weekend. Well whatever one it is, I hope that your weekend will be filled with much fun and adventure. That it will be one of those that go down in the book of all time memories......

So to end of my week of what to do in winter, I thought I would write about 4x4 adventures.  South Africa provides some of the best off road experiences in the world.  It is a great family activity that will leave you all laughing, screaming for joy and just having a downright good time.  If you are unsure of 4x4 there are a few places that offer tutoring. So you are able to get a handle on the sport itself.

If you are keen to give it a try, go to our website www.adventureescapades.co.za for more information on 4x4 trails etc. While I am at it, I would like to remind all those that it is the comrades this weekend. So if you are in the Natal area and have nothing to do on Sunday, why not get down to the comrades and help cheer those runners home. It is always a great way to spend your time and there is always such a festive activity out there on the course.

For those of you who don’t know what the comrades is, it is a marathon, where runners run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg or vice versa. The race has been going for over hundred years and is one of the most gruelling events on the running calendar in the world. It sees some of the best long distance runners come out in hope of becoming the comrade’s champion.  It also draws vast amounts of men and women who wish to just challenge themselves in an effort to complete the race. Whatever the race holds, whether you are a participator or spectator it is one of those sporting events not to be missed.

What to do in Winter - Mountain Biking!!!

Today I am going to talk about Mountain Biking as a winter activity. Mountain Biking is one of the most challenging and physically demanding sports. So if you are looking for a challenge this winter or are just wanting to stay fit and healthy then mountain biking is the way to go....

The great thing about Mountain Biking is that it can be done anywhere and can also be enjoyed by the whole family. The different mountain biking events that take place all over the country are really wonderful social events that cater for the whole family, whether you are participating or just being a spectator.

There are a few different styles of mountain biking, but the most popular for the adventure enthusiast is cross country. This is where you get the opportunity to cycle through mountains, coastal forests or through game reserves. Mountain Biking is a sport that can be enjoyed all year round, but is far better during the winter months, as the conditions are better suited.

Mountain Biking is not an expensive activity, all that is required is a mountain bike, helmet and reflective clothing if cycling in bad light. Most places that offer mountain biking as a holiday activity will have the equipment for hire. So if you are looking for something social and different to do this winter, why not get out there and start cycling. You really won’t be disappointed, it is quite addictive once you get going.

What to do in Winter - Climbing!!

So you are probably wondering what activity I am going to write about today, well I decided on climbing. There are various forms of climbing these days. So if you are thinking its way to cold to go out doors, then you can try indoor climbing.

Climbing is a great adventure activity that can be enjoyed by everyone. There is nothing like the thrill and the challenge of the climb. You will catch yourself going beyond what you thought you could endure, just to reach the top. There are many places in South Africa that are perfect for climbing, where you can have an uninterrupted view of a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Where you can enjoy nature the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

South Africa offers the perfect year round weather for climbing. There is nothing that can beat the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment that one gets when summiting a mountain and breathing in the fresh air and majestic views.

If however you are not a nature person, then indoor climbing is the activity for you. Wonderwall Indoor Climbing Gym provides artificial structures designed to stimulate the rigors of outdoor rock climbing. It is a great way to enjoy your time and also get the benefit of building some good muscle tone. At Wonderwall there is fun for everyone, no matter what age you are, or how skilled a climber you are.

So weather you are an outdoor person or not, why not give climbing a try and experience the thrill and adventure that it has to offer.

What to do in Winter - Skiing!!!

So continuing with my theme this week of what to do in the winter, I suppose the next obvious choice would be Skiing. Skiing is like the sister sport to Snow Boarding. Skiing has been around for many years, as is a lot older than snow boarding.

There are two different types of Skiing today. The first is known as Nordic Skiing, which is the older of the two kinds of Skiing. Nordic Skiing originated from Scandinavia. The second type of Skiing is known as Alpine Skiing, which originates from Skiing in the Alps.

Skiing is not only a great adventure activity for people to try out, it is also a well recognised sport. In the sport of Skiing there are many different forms of Skiing and ways of competing, from cross country to alpine downhill skiing. Skiing is not only a great way to spend your time, but is also very entertaining for the spectator.

As I said yesterday, just like snow boarding, ski resorts offer beginners training. So if you are worried that you’ve never skied before and don’t know how, well rest at ease. So if you are willing to brave the cold, why not make a plan to get out there and give Skiing a try. It is defiantly something that I would love to do if given the opportunity.

What to do in Winter - Snowboarding

So I hope you all had a great weekend, filled with lots of action and adventure. So winter is defiantly on its way here in South Africa, the mornings are really chilly as to are the evenings. If you are anything like me, winter is not your favourite season….

I had to laugh though I was watching the IPL last night, and they where playing in Bloemfontein, and shame those poor cricketers looked really frozen, apparently it was zero degrees. So even as winter approaches, I have decided not to let that get to me, there is still so much one can do in the cold winter months that are upon us.

So I am about to give you a few ideas, and then I want you guys out there to give me some ideas of what is fun and cool to do in the winter months. It would be great to hear your ideas of what one can get up to in winter.

So over this week, each day I will share a great winter activity, one that is fun and adventurous and is bound to get your blood pumping. My pick for today is Snow Boarding, yes we do get snow here in South Africa and snow boarding is an option. Snow boarding is a great adventure activity to enjoy in the winter. It is fast, action packed and is full out adventure.

There are a few places in South Africa that offer Snow boarding. It is a great sport that anyone can learn, most resorts offer a basics course on how to get started, so why not learn something new this winter. Why not get out the house and instead of complaining how much you dislike winter, give snow boarding a try. You just might become a fan of winter!!!!

Karting at Kyalami

So the week is over and the weekend is rolling in. If you are feeling the way I am, then well you cannot wait. I am just so keen to get out of the office and into the great outdoors.....

So I guess the question is what are the plans going to be, what adventure will we get up to this weekend. Well the options are endless really, it is totally up to you. There are so many adventure activities out there for us to discover, truly we can pick our playground.

So today I have decided to tell you a little bit about Karting. Karting is a great way to spend your time, especially with a group of mates. It provides fast, action packed entertainment.  And the great thing about Karting is that everyone can give it a go.

One of the best places to go Karting is at Kyalami Kart Circuit . Here you can experience Karting at its best. Kyalami Karting prides itself on making sure that no matter what walk of life you are from, you can join in the thrill and joy of high speed motor racing.  Kyalami Karting provides excellent service and goes out of their way to make sure you have a safe and memorable time on the track.

It is a great place to go with a group of mates and enjoy the challenge of racing each other. It is also the perfect place for a corporate day, where your company can relax and unwind for the stresses of the corporate world.  Whatever your situation Kyalami Karting can accommodate you and can ensure you have the ride of your life.

What's your Top 3 Adventure Dreams?

So what’s happening out there? What wild adventures are you getting up too? Don’t you just wish everyday was a holiday…..?

Let me ask you this if you had one day to do any adventure activity what would it be and where would you do it? It gets you thinking doesn’t it? I mean come on there is just so much to choose from. Do you do something that you have already done before, or do you try something totally new and different.

I mean I have Han glided in Brazil, and that was awesome. I mean the beautiful view of Rio was breath taking. Have also Para-sailed at Sun City which was pretty cool too.

But I think I would lean towards trying something new and a little daring.

So my top three adventure activities I would like to try if I had the opportunity, would be…. 1. Diving with Great white sharks, it looks like it will be a real thrill. 2. Kite Surfing, would love to give that a try and just let the wind take you cruising along the water, must be such a rush. 3. Hot Air Ballooning, come on what better way to start your day, by sailing over the landscape as the sun rises and the earth comes to life.

So guys those are my top three, what is yours? Come on and tell me what your top three would be, don’t leave me hanging.

Kite Surfing What its all about!!!

So if you read my blog about Kite surfing earlier in the week, and are not really sure what exactly Kite Surfing is, well here goes I am going to try and do my best to explain what it is…..

Kite surfing or Kite boarding is a surface water sport that uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a Kite board (similar to a wakeboard). Generally Kite boarding refers to a style of riding known as freestyle or wake-style, whereas Kite surfing is more "wave-riding" oriented. These two styles usually require different boards and specific performance kites.

A Kite surfer or Kite boarder uses a board with or without foot-straps or bindings, combined with the power of a large controllable kite to propel himself and the board across the water. Kite Surfing is a sport that can be quite hazarders, so therefore it is strongly advised that you seek professional training before attempting to Kite Surf. This does not mean that the ordinary person cannot participate; they just need to get equipped first. There are many Kite Surfing schools around that will train and equip you in the wonderful and very exciting sport of Kite Surfing.

If you are still curious and need more information go check out our web site Adventure Escapades. Hopefully the piece on Kite Surfing there will answer any questions you may have. Also you will find places to learn how to Kite Surf. So if any of you are brave enough and give Kite Surfing a try, why not let us know how it goes.

Weekend is over!!!

So the weekend is over, which totally sucks. Must say I am feeling rather tired after having a good and busy weekend….

So come on and tell me about your weekend, what you got up to. What out of the box, blood pumping adventure did get involved in this weekend? Hopefully what ever you got up to, it was awesome and that you had loads of fun.

Met this really awesome lady this weekend, who has taken up kite surfing, and man does she have some cool stories to tell. I was really challenged by her will to try something new and extreme. She is a mother and has decided that she is not too old to try something new and to live a life of fun and adventure.

So this is my challenge for the week, think about what you would love to try, but have never had the guts or think you can’t do it, and then just get out there and make it happen. I would love to know what extreme adventure you would love to do. It’s never too late to try something new and to get out there and live life. Go check out our site adventure escapades, and see where and what you can do. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Kitesurfing is cool!!

So if you are anything like me, then you don’t know anything about Kitesurfing. I must admit it looks like great fun and am totally keen to give it a try….

Kitesurfing just looks like a flippen cool way to spend your time and to have loads of fun.  I mean can you just imagine getting onto a board and allow the wind to take you away, where you can just cruise along the water and if you are good enough, do some jumps and flips. I would most probably kill myself in the process.

The great thing about Kitesurfing is that it’s not just for the professional out there, anyone can learn. There are many places out there who teach those interested in learning. So if you are like me and don’t know much about Kitesurfing, but think it looks totally awesome, why not get out there and learn. As one always says a donkey is never too old to learn new tricks.

Let me know if you guys know of any cool places that offer Kitesurfing and if you are a Kite surfer yourself. Also go check out our web site adventure escapades.  Until next week, keep living on the edge.

Karkloof Classic Mountain Bike Festival!!!

This weekend is the Karkloof Classic Mountain Bike Festival. So if you are in the Natal area why not get down there and see what it’s all about….

The Karkloof Classic is the biggest MTB festival in South Africa. It brings riders from all over for this weekend of fun and entertainment. The festival has so much to offer, even for those of us who are not mountain bike riders. If provides innovative tracks, great entertainment and a country atmosphere.

The picturesque setting of the Karkloof valley provides the perfect venue for this festival. This is defiantly one of those best value for money events. Paintball is great fun!

So I am sitting here writing this blog, looking out my window at the beautiful day that is on display, thinking man I should be out there and not in here…..but hey that’s life I guess.

So I was just thinking about the time myself and some mates went paintballing, man that was loads of fun. Paintball is a great way to get out there and have some fun and provides a good excuse to shoot one of your mates in the back. Oh yes I totally did that and it was ever so satisfying.

I remember just hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting enemies, and as they walk past, just letting rip, firing as many rounds on them as possible. Paintball is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, each team trying to outwit the other as you participate in different war type games. It really does get your blood pumping and your adrenaline going. And then after all of the competition and shooting is over, there is nothing better than sitting with your mates having a cold drink, chatting through your strategies, great shots and of course your great escapes.

Paintball is great for anything if you think about it. It’s a great for team building, bachelor’s parties or even just for some good old fashion fun with friends. So come on why don’t you get out there and give it a try if you haven’t yet tried it. Once you have been shot, you will want revenge and then the fun begins.

Check out our web site adventureescapades to find a great paintball place near you.

Lets have fun in the week!

So it’s Monday morning and you thinking how am I going to get through a whole week! Yes adventure junkies out there, it is the first full week we have had since the start of April…..

I mean I am sitting here thinking will I make it or will I go through public holiday withdrawals symptoms. Well here is my advice to all those thinking the same thing I am, its time to spice up your normally long and boring week. Allow yourself to have some out of the box adventure in the week. Yes it is allowed even though it might be a “school night”. Come on let’s be rebels and live a little.

There is so much that we can do to spice up our average week, you can do a little mountain biking, or canoeing, go-karting or even some rock or wall climbing.  Its time to make every week feel like a shortened week, I mean what’s the point if the only fun and adventure you have is on the weekends, where’s the joy in that.

So go check out our web site adventureescapades and see what adventure and fun you can have during the week. Post your comments letting me know what crazy out the box fun you had this week. Live life to the max and remember don’t hold back.

Harley's On The Move

Ever been driving down the high way and as you look into your review mirror, all you see is about 50 Harleys coming towards you….

Well this happened to us yesterday, as we where on our way down to Pietermaritzburg, we looked up and saw a big group of bikers making their way down the high way. Well the sound of all those bikes are just awesome, and sounds like thunder rolling down the mountains.

I must say I was very impressed with them, even though they where a large number, they where very polite. They didn’t take over the road as if they owned it, like some cars do, they just eased in and out of the traffic making their way to where ever they where going. So the question I want to ask is does anyone know where these guys where going and have you seen them on your travels. If anyone has any info, please post a comment.

Also watching these guys on their Harleys, got me thinking, how must it feel to just jump on the back of one of those babies and cruise to wherever? It must be pretty cool and liberating. So I did some checking around and there are places where you can hire a Harley, so for me the near future holds a Harley ride. Go check out our site for more information on Harley hiring. Adventureescapades.
