Power Enhanced Adventure

Power enhancing bands are having their adventure in the sun at the moment, said to utilise a holographic device implanted in a silicone wristband to improve power (obviously), balance, flexibility, overall performance and focus in pretty much all action pursuits. These bands somehow tap into natural energy fields and mystically harness them to combat any negative energy fields created by all the technology we surround ourselves with.

Never the less, since they make for a fun and funky looking fashion accessory a whole lot of dudes and dudettes are wearing them. Including, we have heard, Cristiano Renaldo who may be matching his band with his Armani hot pants. Rubens Barrichello of the Williams Formula One team fame said the first time he wore one in a race, he won!

Fathoming how they actually work requires some mind bending gymnastics of a scientific nature, which is not surprising since the bands are reputed to increase the core power of athletes by a whopping, are you sitting down? Five hundred percent! The average sports doctors and fitness gurus are nothing short of flabbergasted at these claims since the supporting data has clearly been shared with but a few, perhaps this proves it is science at such a high level, mere doctors may not even grasp the intricacies of these wonder bands.

Marketers appear to have to grasped the concept with the most agility, they clearly all wear their bands, which are being used to promote healthy mindedness in boardrooms, conference centres and we hear they are being packaged for corporate year-end tokens at a rate of knots!

We at are an adventurous bunch so we will try them and share any exciting results. We also really want to hear about your experiences with these little powerhouses. Your comments are welcome here or at our Face book wall. Meantime if you need an excuse to put your new wonder band to the test, go ahead and browse our website, we know you will find an adventure that is up to the challenge!

Turtle Adventures

Thonga Beach Lodge and Kosi Forest Lodge are about to become the turtle enthusiasts playground of choice once again! Turtle tracking begins on the 1st November at Thonga Beach Lodge and continues until 28th February each year. The Kosi Forest Lodge turtle tracking season is open from 15th November till 15th January annually.

Both lodges support the Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtle monitoring programmes. Seven species of marine turtles exist in the world's oceans today, all of them have unique lifestyles in that they travel great distances and take decades to mature. This makes turtles important indicators of ocean health. There are five species found off the Kwa-Zulu Natal Coast, namely, the loggerhead, leatherback, hawksbill, green and Olive Ridley turtles. Of these five species that occur in South African waters, only the loggerhead and leatherback females nest along our shores.

The purpose of this project is to monitor and record nesting populations of loggerhead and leatherback sea turtles along the eastern seaboard and simultaneously provide protection of the females during this vulnerable stage on the shore. Furthermore to establish an annual population census and determine distribution of nesting loggerhead and leatherback sea turtles in South Africa and Southern Mozambique.

What the Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtle Monitoring programmes have achieved so far;
• The ongoing monitoring and conservation efforts have had a positive effect on population size. Since the programme began a total of 46, 893 loggerhead and 11,509 leatherback females have nested on the beaches of The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.
• Scientific information has been obtained about the nesting and non-nesting distribution range.
• The role of Agulhas current in distribution of hatchlings has been established.
• The conservation effort contributed to the establishment of Marine Protected Areas
• Management actions are in line with international conventions.
• International recognition and collaboration were obtained for both research and management of the breeding populations of turtles and provided guidelines for conservation activities in the South Western Indian Oceans.
• The programme served to increase public awareness and create tourism benefits along the Park's beaches.

At Thonga Beach Lodge the sightings on our nightly walks and turtle drives are recorded and submitted to the Turtle Programme. At Kosi Forest Lodge we support the community Concession that runs the Turtle Safaris. The sightings from these excursions are also submitted to the programme.

Grab the opportunity to enjoy this environmentally friendly activity when you book into Thonga Beach Lodge or Kosi Forest Lodge. Book here today!

Great White Shark Adventure in Mossel Bay

A Great White Shark adventure awaits you in Mossel Bay with White Shark Africa. You can hop on their custom-made catamaran and sail out to where these gigantic mammals play. A Great White can exceed 6m in length and weigh up to 2,200 kilograms.

The blockbuster movie Jaws directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg has most of us believing that humans are in fact the great white sharks preferred prey. This is not actually true. The shark primarily feeds on marine animals, including fish and seabirds. Even so it is sensible to swim at designated beaches with shark nets.

Great White Sharks enjoy coastal waters with a temperature of between 12 and 24 degrees Celsius. South African waters home some of the densest shark populations and it is therefore home to much research on these creatures. They have also been tagged in South African waters and later spotted in Australia then again in South Africa within the same year. That’s a mileage of 20, 000 kilometres! These mighty fellows get around more than we realize and interaction between shark populations is definite.

With White Shark Africa you will be in safe experienced hands whether you opt to dive or enjoy observing the sharks up close from the boat. This is an unbelievable experience. With a long weekend coming up Mossel Bay looks like a good place for a Great White Shark Adventure!

Skydive Adventure recently met with Zendi a Durban mom of two teenage boys and the wife of Johan, a parabat. This adventurous family thoroughly enjoy many aspects of the adventurous lifestyle we are spoilt with in South Africa, including the beach, 4x4 trails and jumping from planes!

Not to be outdone by the testosterone rich guys in the family Zendi who recently turned forty decided to test the popular idiom “40 is the new 20” and booked herself for her first solo jump with Skydive Durban. As the big day dawned Johan was the most anxious as the family headed off to embrace the adventure that lay ahead. The training and lectures would probably have some people bailing before the plane left earth but Zendi took it all in her stride, feeling more reassured as she gained greater insight and knowledge about what would happen next.

By the time they were suited up the nerves had settled and they were all ready for action! Zendi and Chad who also jumped for the first time had an awesome experience. Zendi said, “The height is not the issue, you are so high it is irrelevant. The scary thing is steering yourself to the Drop Zone when it is the size of a pinhead from up high. So best you pay attention in class!”

Zendi will enthusiastically encourage everyone to give skydiving a go saying, “Your life is never the same once you have jumped from a plane on your own!” This brave lady plans to keep up her skydive jumps and is looking forward to her next adventure, a big swing experience at Oribi Gorge!

This adventure will be remembered as a huge family bonding experience. Kudos to the entire Dormehl family from all at!

If you still have no plans for this upcoming long weekend we hope you will feel inspired to get online with and choose your nearby adventure destination. We have more skydive venues plus a whole lot more you will enjoy!

Renegade Paintball Adventure in Howick

A Renegade Paintball Adventure in Howick begins with a serious safety briefing from the Regimental Sergeant Major on duty. These inert gas powered weapons are potentially so powerful they are rumoured to be the latest home protection purchase of choice in South Africa. All participants are required to pay attention and they receive a full demonstration of the might exerted at full speed as well as at the speed chosen for their age and ability.

The wooded area where the battles play out has a photogenic fort. Be sure in-between rounds to take some team photographs set around it. The bleached wooden structure has two levels and creatively placed subjects make a stunning contrast for an artistic photographic shot. An unexpected bonus at a Paintball venue!

For younger paint ball participants the RSM selects the lowest power setting. Even at the reduced power, slow-footed rookies who take a blow will still have red circles to prove their metal. To watch kids exclaim how they nailed one another and show off their ‘war wounds’ is entertaining. It is also a reminder to parents of how blessed their own childhood was, if they were fortunate enough to have escaped the high tech age of Play Stations in the bedroom and iPods in the pocket. Lucky to avoid being sucked indoors away from the awesome make believe adventures available outdoors. The very scene, where paintball ideas and the like have been nurtured.

Paintball remains one of the most popular adventure activities. Accessible to any one who is mobile from around 8 years old and upwards. This is good clean fun in the great outdoors. Renegade Paintball presents the added benefit of being attached to the well-loved YellowWood Cafe. After paintball the group can relax and enjoy cooling drinks and great food.

We suggest that you visit to view all the adventures in your area and also to secure your paintball session at Renegade Paintball.

Discover Ballooning Adventure

We’d like to introduce you to a Discover Ballooning adventure. Not many people realize that ballooning is actually the safest aviation sport around. It makes sense if you give that a moment’s logical consideration.

Ballooning is slower that other air sports, gentler and somewhat nostalgically romantic but no less adventurous for all these characteristics!

Technically speaking there are three main components to a hot air balloon. The basket, envelope and burner. The basket is woven out of wicker. It is exceptionally sturdy and totally able to absorb the shock during bumpier landings. The square holes in the sides of the basket function as steps so that passengers can climb in and out of the basket easily. It’s rope handles enable the crew to load and offload the basket during transportation of the balloon.

The envelope is the large pretty parachute like portion of the balloon which fills up with hot air. It is made from an anti-porous treated rip-stop nylon fabric with load bearing webbing tape.

The burners are fueled with propane gas which heats the air inside the envelope to create lift. The burner is attached to the basket and the envelope by wires and support poles. There are hoses which feed propane into the burners from the cylinders.

The process that gets you the adventurer, off the ground requires that the envelope of the balloon is unrolled and spread out on the ground. The crew attaches the envelope to the wicker basket and burner frame. Petrol fueled fans are used for cold inflation, which is the process of blowing air into the envelope to partially inflate the balloon. This allows enough space at the mouth of the balloon to use the burners to heat the air inside the envelope. After enough air in the envelope has been heated, it will begin to rise above the basket.

Now that you know more about how it works you must be as eager as the horses racing in today’s Durban July to book you Discover Ballooning adventure. Book here.

Crowds in the past have been huge and enthusiastic along the course creating a festive and supportive vibe for the participants.

iSimangaliso with Advantage Tours

Adventure Escapades recently hooked up with Advantage Tours on the Greater St Lucia wetlands Park. In the middle of winter we enjoyed a sunshiny summer’s afternoon gently skimming across the waters of the estuary. The Advantage Cruiser is custom built to travel in shallow water. This boat has environmentally friendly engines which minimize any impact on the ecology of this world heritage site. There is a lower covered deck, with a little bar for select refreshments as well as a deck upstairs for sun seekers.

Steve our informative skipper punctuated his wealth of knowledge with some dryly humorous lines, just to keep everyone entertained. With his guidance we enjoyed views of some of the largest vegetated dunes in the world, a variety of prolific bird life including the giant secretary bird and mangrove swamps.

The first stirring of excitement was created by a pod of hippo on the right-hand bank, as Steve took us in, closer than we thought safe, he suggested we look a little more to the left. There we spotted three well camouflaged crocodiles basking in the afternoon sunshine. Nobody hasd even noticed then as yet, so well did they blend with their environment.

This relaxing boat ride presented loads of opportunity for the avid photographer, during the stops en route.

We felt so proud to live in this beautiful country as we noticed that so many of the other passengers were tourists, here we were just three hours from home in a well preserved area of tremendous natural beauty. What a blessing!

This is stunning winter holiday destination. For locals and international visitors we highly recommend Advantage Tours for a closer look at the wetland life. See iSimangaliso with Advantage Tours, this truly is ‘the place of miracles’.

FIFA Football Adventure

South Africans and foreign visitors alike are enjoying the FIFA football adventure that is currently playing out around our beautiful country, Mzansi. Feel it, it is here!

Admittedly it would have been great for locals if Bafana Bafana had achieved a better result in their game yesterday in Tshwane against Uruguay, but this was a tough draw for us. Uruguay are two times Soccer World Cup champions. So let’s not forget Bafana Bafana’s respectable performance against Mexico and let’s face France with dignity and optimism as a united rainbow nation. Doing our diski moves along the way and keeping a unified spirit of ubuntu as we do it.

Soccer is a quirky game and as we have seen unexpected results do happen. The Spaniards know all about that! This football contest is for those with adventure in their hearts.

Our visitors have been heard sharing on local news platforms that despite their prior reservations about the security in South Africa they have experienced happy travels. We have so much to offer travelers that staying in hotels rooms between the games in out of the question!

Visit to find your choice of action adventure. Mild to wild activities from mountain to coast will thrill you beyond expectation. Are you up for more that the FIFA football adventure?

Catch the Sardine Run with Blue Vision Dive Centre

You can catch the Sardine Run with Blue Vision Dive Centre. Small pockets of sardines have already been spotted at Port St Johns, so we are looking forward to the beginning of the Sardine Run.

If you have not heard of the sardine run and are wondering what it is and why it creates such excitement read on. It is not called "The Greatest Shoal on Earth" by mistake. This mammoth natural event is the underwater equivalent of the annual Wildebeest migration across the Serengeti. Millions of people catch sardine fever. While they wage heated battles to secure the best vantage points from which to enjoy this fabulous spectacle, predators of the ocean congregate by the hordes for a humungous feast.

The last day in May has seen the arrival of the humpback whales migrating passed Aliwal Shoal and the Ragged Tooth Sharks have arrived in numbers!

We look forward to the gigantic shoals of sardines as they chase the warmer waters they love best while unwittingly luring ocean and air hunters to the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The shoals of sardines can extend to a length of 6km, a width of 1,6km and up to 30m deep. That is a big draw card for hungry sea creatures!

All this in anticipation of the ocean extravaganza that is due to arrive soon. Be sure to book early and catch the sardine run with Blue Vision Dive Centre.
